Alive! The Tanho Center is dedicated to the exploration of the many discoveries of texts from the earliest Christ movements. By incorporating recently discovered texts into contemporary practices, we hope to signify exactly what tanho means in Coptic: “to make or be alive.”
The Tanho Center combines art, spiritual practice, theology, and research with texts like the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Phillip, The Thunder: Perfect Mind, and countless new writings from the first and second centuries. Led by a combination of young innovators, passionate thinkers, and seasoned scholars, Tanho is dedicated to making the world outside and the depth of the inner life alive and open-hearted.
The Tanho Center is far from traditional, even while being dedicated to the wisdom of the ancients. It seeks to offer new educational adventures, artistic and spiritual expressions, sensing that contemporary ideas and the inventiveness of the ancient world belong to each other. In this endeavor, we seek a new aliveness for a diverse world and aching hearts. Neither skipping over subtleties nor the complicated meanings in these discovered texts, Tanho staff and members patiently claim the ways these documents help form a larger family of scripture. This larger family both companions the regular Bible and offers new ideas, images, and practices.
Join us as we come alive, practice new paths, and create community!
